No one could forget the face of Araceli Hidalgo, the first to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in Spain. Her image, slightly lifting the sleeve of her blouse to receive the serum in the living room of the Guadalajara retirement home where she resides, was the first ray of hope in the fight against the pandemic in our country.

For this reason, Hidalgo, who is already 96 years old and has fulfilled, before anyone else, the vaccination schedule and enjoys full immunity, was present at the state tribute to the victims of COVID-19 in our country. , who on this occasion focused on health workers who lost their lives fighting the virus on the front lines.

Araceli Hidalgo recalled them all in his speech, before the Kings, the whole Government and the public representatives of all the autonomies and European institutions. But the focus, Araceli, has been on the young. “I tell young people to respect the pandemic,” he asked.

This call for caution is not fortuitous at the moment, in the middle of the fifth wave and with a rapid spread of the virus among the still unvaccinated age group: those under 30 years old.

But that wasn’t the only mention in Araceli’s brief speech. “I want to send a message to all the health workers who with their work have saved many lives. Also to nurses, nurses, ambulance workers, so that everyone can do their job well, ”he said.

And, finally, he winked at his compatriot, Los Olmos, in Guadalajara. “I also want to send a message to all my colleagues, to all the workers in the retirement homes.”
