The shipping company Baleria has joined the Fundacin Empresa y Clima (FEC) as a Gold member, according to the agreement recently signed between Adolfo Utor, president of the shipping company, and Elvira Carles, director of the FEC. Thus, Baleria, a pioneer in the use of natural gas in maritime transport throughout the world, will be part of a foundation which is the sustainable benchmark for companies in the face of climate change and its direct and indirect effects.

“Joining the FEC reaffirms our commitment to the defense of the planet, which we have made concrete from Baleria with the use of natural gas in our fleet and the reduction of emissions that affect the greenhouse effect, among other projects », Said Adolfo Utor, president of Baleria.

It should be remembered that the shipping company, a world pioneer in the use of natural gas, is carrying out a fleet plan with an investment of 380 million euros to have up to 9 gas vessels by 2021, between new constructions and re-engines. Currently, the shipping company already owns 6 of these vessels and has started refurbishing one more. On the other hand, it has also started installing sensors and measurement systems on some ships to monitor fuel consumption and emissions in real time.

For Elvira Carles, director of the Empresa y Clima Foundation, “having a more efficient and sustainable maritime transport sector will be very important in the fight against climate change. Collaborating with Baleria in its environmental response, where the use of natural gas as fuel plays a leading role, is one of our objectives ”.

Joining the FEC will allow Baleria to participate in an influential platform in the formulation of environmental policies, as well as to belong to a large group of companies with a common interest in the fight against climate change, which exchange experiences, challenges, concerns. and best practices through the various meetings they organize.

As a GOLD member of the Empresa y Clima Foundation, Baleria will also be able to access first-rate networking with stakeholders, governments, associations and the media, as well as participate in major sector events in which the FEC collaborates with. In addition, he will be able to attend daily meetings with negotiators from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, and participate in the Conferences of the Parties (COP) which the FEC has attended as an Observer Member of the United Nations since 2010.
