In August, Microsoft announced that a new feature would be available in Microsoft Teams to allow users to transfer active meetings between devices. The feature started rolling out last week and is now available to all Microsoft Teams users, according to the Microsoft 365 roadmap.
Transfer your call anytime with Teams
Microsoft says Teams users must sign in with the same account to transfer a meeting between a mobile device and a team. Additionally, the update also allows meeting participants to add another device as a partner to their current meeting.
To use this feature, you must have the Teams app installed on both devices. Here’s how to transfer a meeting from one device to another or add a companion device:
First, we open Teams (mobile app or desktop app) on the second device, now we will see a banner that warns that the meeting is in progress and we can join or transfer the meeting to the second device. We click on the “Join” button. Finally, we choose one of these options: “Add this device” or “Transfer to this device”. Once done, the meeting should now appear on the second device.
The new feature allows users to easily switch between devices without hassle, this feature has limited functionality at the moment. Some users reported that the app does not keep the mute state when transferring between devices. If you have also been affected by this issue, we encourage you to provide your feedback on the Teams UserVoice website.
