Relations between the two countries were strained after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the strategically important 80 km road from the Lipulekh Pass to Dharchula on May 8. Nepal opposed the inauguration, saying the road crossed its territory. A few days later, he released a new map showing Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as his share.
