Directive of the High Court of Karachi
There are reports that Arju Raja, a 13-year-old girl from a Christian family, was kidnapped and converted to Islam, then married to Ali Azhar, a 44-year-old man. When the case got to court, the court sent the child with the kidnapper. Even the High Court of Sindh in Karachi did not order any arrests.
Mother continued to plead for justice
During the court proceedings, Arju’s mother, Rita Christ, continued to plead to meet her daughter. The video surfaced on social media, showing Rita demanding to see the girl while crying to her children, saying she was passing out but was not allowed to meet the girl.
The Justice and Peace Commission also said that many such incidents go unreported. The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) condemned the incident and called for addressing the challenge of growing intolerance towards minorities.
