Developer Updates

As in every version, we have a new Windows SDK in the development channel. Whenever a new version of the operating system is released on the development channel, the corresponding SDK will also be offered. You can always install the latest Insider SDK from aka.ms/InsiderSDK. The SDK versions will be archived in Flight Hub along with the operating system versions.

Fixes for build 20251

Fixed an issue that unexpectedly caused the background of some dialogs to appear gray instead of white on recent flights. Fixed an issue that caused the taskbar to block the power button in the Start menu of some Insiders. Recently fixed an issue that caused some insiders to see a bug check for SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED Fixed a crash with opengl32.dll Fixed an issue that could crash the Settings app when just checking for updates after the update.
Addresses an issue that could cause the Settings app to send a notification that only said “new notification”. Fixed the search indexer inability to retrieve metadata from HEIF and WebP files, so that it could not search these files with metadata such as shooting date. Change that prevented the Cast to device option in Movies & TV (and other media player apps) from not working when you clicked a device in the list in recent versions. Fixed an issue in Recent versions that could cause the screen you projected with Miracast to freeze soon after logging in.

Known bugs in Build 20251

They are working on a fix for an issue starting with build 20236, where installing games from the Store on a non-OS secondary drive will make the secondary drive inaccessible. To prevent this from happening, you should change the new default content storage to the secondary drive BEFORE installing the game. This can be done in Settings> Storage> Change location where new content is saved. Microsoft is studying the time it takes to install a new version. Microsoft is working to implement live preview of pinned pages. For now The new page pinning experience will only work with news we add, not new ones we already have. If we don’t want to wait, we can remove it from edge: // apps and re-pin it. Some users may see a green screen with the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error. The taskbar may hide the Start button from the Start menu. If this happens, we can use Win + X to shut down the computer. Windows Insiders on ARM computers such as Surface Pro X will notice that Windows PowerShell will not start in this release. To work around this problem, use “Windows PowerShell (x86)” or “Windows PowerShell ISE (x86)” from the Start menu if you must use PowerShell. Or download the new modern PowerShell 7 that leverages ARM while running natively. In addition, the icon is prettier. They are investigating reports that some users see error 0x80070426 when using their Microsoft account to sign in to various apps. If you find it, restarting your PC may fix this problem.
