China responded for the first time to the Pakistani government’s decision to grant temporary provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan. China said on Wednesday it had seen Islamabad’s decision to grant temporary state status to Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. China said the issue should be resolved in a peaceful and appropriate manner, in accordance with bilateral agreements with relevant United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions.

India opposed Imran government’s decision
Please say that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday announced the granting of temporary provincial status to the Gilgit-Baltistan region of PoK. India strongly opposed this decision by Imran Khan’s government. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said India strongly rejects Pakistan’s attempt to make changes to Indian territory which is illegal and forcibly occupied by Islamabad. He also called on Pakistan to immediately evacuate these areas.

China said – Kashmir issue must be resolved peacefully
Asked about Pakistan’s decision on Gilgit-Baltistan and India’s response to it, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, “We have seen related news.” China’s position on the Kashmir issue is firm and clear. It is a historical question between India and Pakistan. This must be resolved in a peaceful and appropriate manner, in accordance with the relevant resolutions and bilateral agreements of the Charter of the United Nations and of the Security Council.

Asked if China’s opposition to China’s repeal of Article 370 provisions of Jammu and Kashmir last year and China’s silence on Pakistan’s move to Gilgit-Baltistan did was not contrary to his claim to remain neutral on the East Kashmir issue. He also recalled that interested countries can join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) of $ 60 billion. India opposed the CPEC project when it came to PoK. China and Pakistan are also preparing to lay the railway under the CPEC project.
