CNBC has hit the controversial note each time it has endeavoured into the domain of cryptocurrency. However, the controversies failed to damp the spirit of this mainstream media house. In a recent press release, the media outlet has shed light on the documentary stating, "This documentary is an eye-opening journey that proves to be as informative as it is entertaining and unexpected. Lee offers viewers a rare look inside the wild world of bitcoin, uncovering the unusual landscape and cast of characters surrounding it, and ultimately, allowing viewers to take their own side in the crypto craze."
A trailer of 90 second has also been released in order to grasp the attention of the users so that they catch the airing of this documentary. However, this initiative instead of creating hype among the crypto enthusiasts and investors, it received waves of criticism from the cryptocurrency community.
The crypto community rebuked CNBC for using the term "HODL" which holds a significant place among the members of crypto community. The trailer features Mellisa Lee, the host of CNBC mentioning about HODL , an acronym for the phrase "hold on for dear life".
In the opinion of a leading developer of Monero, Ricardo Spagni the term HODL is a farcical typo with no importance. The term has reached a significant height of popularity in the later phase of 2013. Spagni mocked at the manner in which CNBC used the term, thereby, stating, "It’s not an acronym, you incompetent buffoons. Please do the tiniest bit of research FIRST!"
Another segment of documentary
Another point of focus of this documentary is "Crypto Kid", a Bitcoin diehard who is more concerned towards creating an extravagant image rather than sharing some siginificant facts on Bitcoin. Critics have stated that selecting a better crypto enthusiast other than "Crypto Kid" could have addressed the viewers' concern, properly.
