According to a press release dated September 12, Via Varejo, one of the largest consumer electronics and home appliance retailers, has partnered with Airfox, a blockchain payment service to enlarge its mobile financial service to 60 million consumers in Brazil.
Via Varejo’s Casa Bahla stores will brace the mobile and digital banking service to millions of underserved Brazilian consumers providing easy and reasonably priced financial solutions.
According to the press release, these underserved consumers can buy goods, pay bills, transfer money, and recharge public transit cards using their mobile phones in an easy, fast, and cost-free manner. Customers can also debit and credit cash Casa Bahia outlets across the country.
Airfox accepts ERC-20 token named AirToken (AIR) coin and it allows blockchain payments to be made through that. The service was launched recently in the month of February.
The blockchain payment platform’s main aim is to democratize financial services for the country’s population.
“Our partnership with Via Varejo supports our mission to democratize financial services for the Brazilian population currently underserved by financial institutions,” said Victor Santos, CEO, Airfox.
Airfox to extend to other markets soon
Airfox, which is already readily available to the Brazilian population will soon be extended to other booming markets as well. This collaboration allows Airfox to extend its mobile digital wallet to Via Varejo’s Brazilian customer base and drive mainstream adoption.
“Via Varejo shares the values and mission of Airfox. We both have a deep passion for the customer. This partnership will distinguish Via Varejo within the innovation environment and improve the shopping experience of our customers,” said Felipe Negrão, CFO, Via Varejo.
Other features included in Airfox’s mobile platform are access to microloans, biometric and facial user authentication, QR code charge, and more.
“Airfox will create an integrated experience for our in-store and online customers with its consumer-driven, innovative technology. This partnership embodies Via Varejo’s forward-thinking strategy in using multichannel purchase and payment options that fit the lives of all our customers,” said Marcelo Nogueira, financial services director, Via Varejo.
