Airplane manufacturing giant Boeing to revolutionize the airspace with Blockchain
Aviation industry giant Boeing announced yesterday that it could jump on the blockchain bandwagon soon. Boeing aims to revolutionize UAV tracking and allocation of flight corridors using Blockchain. The aviation giant will collaborate with Texas-based AI company, SparkCognition. Together, the organizations also plan to use Blockchain for building pilot-less vehicles (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).
According to their press release, Boing has already invested $32 million to create the platform. The press release further explains that the collaboration “will also provide a standardized programming interface.” This interface will support package delivery, industrial inspection and other commercial applications.
According to the CEO of SparkCognition, Amir Husain, the aerospace sector will work towards creating a giant new market. He explains that this market will be valued over $3 trillion. He further added,
“The urban aerial mobility opportunity will lead to the creation of the largest new market in our (lifetimes).”
Boeing’s CTO, Greg Hysolp said:
“We are at a point in history where technological advances and societal trends are converging to demand bold solutions and a different way to travel.”
The aviation giant is also creating its own division called Boeing NeXt. This division will take care of Boeing’s special projects including developing practical products using upcoming technologies. The Boeing and SpakCognition collaboration will also work on building a Blockchain-based secure and seamless tracking system. This proposed system is supposed to surpass the benefits of satellite tracking.
The system will help in tracking drones at individual points in the airspace. Additionally, they can be tracked when they pass through their designated traffic windows too. Furthermore, users on the ground can also improve delivery systems and target-location inspections using the system.
Hysolp further added,
“Boeing has the experience and expertise to safely and efficiently shape this emerging world of travel and transport. Through Boeing NeXt, we intend to build on our legacy of opening up new frontiers to move people and goods with proven technologies.”
Boeing’s NeXt and HorizonX will work together to spearhead this project. Vice President of HorizonX and head of the upcoming NeXt, Steve Norlund said,
“By taking a holistic approach that combines Boeing’s strength in technological innovation with new business models and non-traditional partnerships, we are laying the foundation for the future commercial mobility ecosystem.”
