The Spanish Guardia Civil and the Austrian Federal Police, supported by Europol, conducted one of the largest drug raids in the continent's history, seizing cryptocurrencies, mainly Bitcoin [BTC], IOTA [MIOTA], Stellar lumen [XLM]. More than EUR 4 500 000 in Bitcoins, IOTA and lumen was seized by law enforcement authorities. The group was distributing synthetic drugs worldwide, known as new psychoactive substances (NPS), on the Darknet.

More than 100 different kinds of NPS were seized in two laboratories in the provinces of Granada and Valencia in Spain, whose market value would exceed EUR 12 million. Nearly 800 000 doses of LSD were confiscated, marking the biggest ever haul of this type of substance and derivatives in the European Union (EU).

Eight people were arrested by the authorities. The raid was conducted by Spanish Guarda Civil and Austrian Federal Police along with Europol, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement.

According to the reports, the substance distributed were LSD, synthetic marijuana, nootropics, depressants, dissociatives, stimulants such as amphetamines or cathinone, and synthetic opiates. The products were delivered to the laboratories in Spain. The raw materials were exported to Amsterdam.

In addition to this, the authorities also seized $2.7 million in cash and bank accounts, three pieces of real estate with a valuation of $1.15 million and ten luxury vehicles. Based on the statement from Europol, the websites managed by the organization attained great reputation.

The crime group had been operating in Spain since 2012. Also, imported the raw materials to make the psychoactive substances from Asian countries, mainly China. The main production unit of synthetic drugs was in Amsterdam. This center acted as a shipping unit to transport drugs to other two laboratories in Spain (Granada and Valencia), which were directly managed by the organization and where the drugs were packaged and distributed to the final consumer.

The drug packages and postals were sent to more than 100 other countries. The packages were camouflaged as other legal products, such as additives for cement. Distributed substances were more than 100 different types of NPS: synthetic cannabinoids, depressants, dissociatives, stimulants such as amphetamines or cathinone, nootropics, psychedelics and synthetic opiates.

The group operated the dealings through Darknet webpages where access was restricted to previously invited users redirected from forums.
