“Bitcoin Cash worked smoothly through the entire upgrade”: Roger Ver
The crypto community had closely watched the hard fork as the BCH team decided to split the existing Bitcoin Cash into two tokens: Bitcoin Cash ABC and Bitcoin Cash SV. Ver teamed up with Bitmain CEO Jihan, and put their weight behind the ABC implementation of the Bitcoin Cash hard fork.
Ver on Thursday stated that Bitcoin Cash worked smoothly throughout the entire upgrade and the services of Bitcoin.com continued unabated through the fork. However, not everyone agreed to his statement.
“May have worked smoothly for you, but for the hundreds of thousands of investors, with hard earned money invested in bitcoin and bitcoin cash, it is depleting their accounts to nothing. May want to think about them as you continue to tear the market apart,” J Vaught, a Twitter user, commented.
“A 50%+ loss of value in the token, mining BTC is 75%-250% more profitable than #BAB, checkpoints added to prevent super easy reorg, major spilt in your community. Yes, smoothly, keep up the great work,” Mark Rex, another Twitter user, wrote.
The contention seen on Twitter is a continuing trend seen in the BCH community. “When you do a software upgrade, everybody usually agrees. But in this particular case, everybody is not agreeing…So, we’ve got ourselves a ‘crypto civil war’,” Brian Kelly, a cryptocurrency fund manager, recently told CNBC on Fast Money.
After the ABC chain was said to have won the hard fork, Ver debunked accusations of cheating and talked about the ABC chain’s superiority in terms of hash rate. “The ABC team has been leading since the opening bell because we had more hash rate than the SV team and it is quite ironic that an SV supporter is saying this. They are the ones who started this entire topic of having more hash rate to become the majority player,” he explained.
