Cardano Foundation raises transparency as it begins Haskell Libraries audit
The Cardano Foundation is on its way to becoming more transparent. The foundation announced on Tuesday that FP Complete, which provides blockchain auditing services, will now audit Cardano’s software libraries as well.
Going forward, the foundation and FP Complete will release regular audit reports, which will specifically review various Haskell Libraries. For those who may not know, Haskell is a programming language that was created over 20 years ago, Cardano [ADA] is the first cryptocurrency to be based in Haskell code.
The newly introduced audit reports will include the identification of redundant solutions within these libraries, assessment of the libraries’ maturity and review of the quality and frequency of library maintenance.
Why audit software libraries?
According to the foundation, dependency on software libraries is now a key area of focus for the audit from here on. Software libraries are basically pools of resources, both code and documentation, which are used to develop software programs and applications.
These libraries are not limited to open source software projects, but have increasingly become an integral part of the open source software movement.
“We hope these audit releases will benefit the wider Haskell developer community, encourage a public discussion around commonly used code and help support and encourage a process for vetting dependencies for safety and security concerns,” the foundation said in a statement.
The first of such reports is available to the public already, titled ‘Haskell “Binary” Report’. The report will analyse the Haskell binary package. However, the report is not yet final, and what’s available on the website is just a snapshot of what has been reviewed so far.
The website cautions that important information for the project has not yet been analysed and some statements in the report may be incorrect.
Cardano tie-up with FP Complete for audits
Late last year, the foundation had appointed FP Complete to conduct an independent audit of the Cardano settlement layer.
The audit includes code, technical documentation and operating processes of IOHK – the company behind Cardano. FP Complete has since provided a number of audit reports, both private and public.
According to the Cardano Foundation, the partnership was made in line with its development philosophy of “research driven, scientific best practice and rigorous peer-review.”
