Casa announces launch of browser extension for its lightning-enabled Bitcoin node
In an interesting development on Friday, crypto startup Casa announced the launch of a browser extension for its lightning network-enabled Bitcoin node. The announcement was made by the company in its official blog.
As per the blog, Casa browser extension is the easiest way to interact with both a local node and external websites using cryptocurrency, and that makes it a great “extension” to the Casa product suite.
The blog further adds that the company thought about developing the browser extension in summer of 2018 but then they decided to concentrate on a web dashboard first.
Lightning is a layer-two payments protocol running on top of the Bitcoin network which facilitates transactions at higher speeds and larger volumes.
Speaking to CoinDesk, Casa founder Jeremy Welch said, “The main thing right now if you’re using a Casa Node and your going … to any of these other sites, you’re basically having to open a second browser tab to open the main Casa dashboard and enter in all the payment information somewhat manually.”
The blog notes:
“The Node has already given hundreds of users an easy way to run a Bitcoin and Lightning Node. It allows you to easily make and receive payments via the Lightning Network, manage Lightning channels, and support the Bitcoin & Lightning networks.”
Speaking to CoinDesk, Welch said that the company will now support the extension in two leading browsers—Chrome and Firefox. By using the extension, users can now control their Casa Node directly and enter in payment information more easily on websites that are lightning-network enabled.
It’s not only Casa that is working towards increasing the usability of the Bitcoin lightning network. There are many entities who are involved in developing several lightning applications and this is just the beginning. The more people come to know about the Lightning Network, the more will be its adoption and this step by Casa seems to be a move in the right direction.
