Crypto-based browser known to award Ethereum-based BATs hits 10 million downloads on Google Playstore
Brave Browser, the open source crypto-based web browser developed by Brave Software Inc. has surpassed the threshold of 10 million downloads on the Google Play store just months after the 5 million feat was achieved.
The browser that pegs itself on its ad-blocking feature achieved the 1 million milestone back in December 2017 and a mere six months later in May 2018 it surpassed the 5 million mark. The readers and contributors to Brave Browser are awarded Basic Attention Token (BAT), based on the cryptocurrency Ethereum. This innovative system of generating revenue is a stark contrast from the advertising system used by other browsers that sell their user’s data.

Brendan Eich, former Mozilla CEO and maker of Brave has come a long way since the Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which raised $35million in just 30 seconds. Since then Brave has not looked back and is achieving tremendous growth. It has formed a media partnership with the Dow Jones Media group, allowing access to exclusive content from the company’s host of publications.
Bridging out of conventional means, the browser has also partnered up with content producers from YouTube and Twitch, gaining access to their large subscription pool. Looking at the younger, more online friendly demographic Brave is working with the likes of Philip DeFranco, who has over 6 million subscribers.
Viewers of content on Brave can reward the creators with crypto-payments in the form of BAT and regular users will be rewarded for just using the platform, as per Brave’s plan going forward.
Advertisements, which are the bane of the online crowd is not a problem on Brave, where the user can choose to be served advertisements. BAT payments will be sent to them in return which can be converted to their local fiat currency.
The future bears well for Brave, as an estimated 2 million more monthly active users (MAUs) will be added to their services to total 5 million by the end of 2018.
