IOTA appoints Volkswagen Group worker as project manager
IOTA foundation announced on Wednesday that a Volkswagen Group member, Janine Härtel, joined IOTA as a project manager. Janine will be a part of the Mobility & Automotive adoption team.
The team hopes that she’ll be a great driver for adoption in the mobility industry as she has a good knowledge about IOTA Tangle. In fact, with her colleagues at Volkswagen, she developed the idea of the “software over the air” PoC using the IOTA Tangle, announcement statement by IOTA foundation mentioned.
“During this time she also learned about many other opportunities to adopt DLT to the automotive world, especially for autonomous vehicles and their business models in MaaS applications. Janine has also consulted on several strategic projects in the aerospace and transportation industry, with a strong focus on IT and Engineering,” according to the statement.

Moreover, Janine has a great knowledge about cars. She has driven every car that she could get her hands on, no matter whether it’s old or new. In fact, she also loves to watching Formula 1 and DTM. She applied her passion for automobiles while working for MHP, a Porsche company.
Janine is quite enthusiastic about her new role; mentioning about the new appointment, she said: “I strongly believe in IOTA’s technology and the vision of a machine-to-machine ecosystem. Examples include vehicles paying for services on demand, such as in-car infotainment, delivery, parking onsite and offsite, driving though countries with toll roads, sharing electric power, and software updates. Most of these ideas are still at an early prototype stage, but I am proud to be part of this change.”
With this new appointment, the company hopes that it’s relationship with Volkswagen will become more strong. Currently, IOTA and Volkswagen are working on a project known as Digital CarPass which will soon be made public. It will be an application for vehicles which can provide the data of where the car went, what it did and how it was treated. It is more like a report sheet for vehicles which will also be providing a tamper-proof mileage history, environmental data, maintenance data, and trip details. It is to ensure that the data is reliable.
