Meet Valenzuela and Alcalá who live off of Dash [DASH]
While crypto believers are vying for mass adoption, Joel Valenzuela and Eugenia Alcalá Sucre are setting an example to show how easier life can be if the world chooses digital money as the primary mode of transaction. Valenzuela, a crypto enthusiast from New Hampshire, USA and Alcalá, an entrepreneur from Venezuela have been ‘living off of DASH’, according to a Dash press release. It is the leading peer-to-peer digital currency for payments and one of the top 15 digital currencies by market capitalization.
Valenzuela has been living off of Dash for the past three years in an effort to examine the viability of decentralized money. “I always had a keen interest in sound money that wasn’t under the control of any one entity, and when I heard you could be your own bank with cryptocurrency, I wanted to try it to see if that was true,” said Valenzuela.
Meanwhile, in South America, Alcalá has been beating the severe inflation that has plagued the country. She believed that moving to cryptocurrency was the need of the hour. She has been using Dash for her expenses and has also set up Dash Caracas, an educational non-profit organization pledged to educate the people of Venezuela about cryptocurrencies and their use.
“I began paying for things in Dash since September 2017 when I organized the first Dash conference in Venezuela.” she said.“That’s when I first spoke to entrepreneurs about Dash and they started to agree to sell goods and services to me using this cryptocurrency. Note very one at first agreed to do that, but in time, more entrepreneurs and merchants have learned how to use Dash as a payment method.”
In a country like Venezuela which is under the crisis of hyperinflation, cash is scarce and debit cards have a low spending limit. It is impossible to buy commodities like refrigerators which require a large amount in just a single transaction. A cryptocurrency like Dash has a remedy to this problem. It can be converted to gift cards which can be exchanged to buy goods and commodities.
Dash is ranked 14th among the cryptocurrencies on the crypto market and is one of the most widely used cryptocurrencies. It owns a popular merchant site called DiscoverDash. It houses more than 2400 businesses accepting Dash for payment. “It includes large online retailers such as Overstock. To fill in the gaps, services such as Bitrefill sell gift cards for Dash to platforms such as Amazon, Hotels.com, and eBay,” read the press release.
Valenzuela and Alcalá are two living examples of people who have adopted cryptocurrency for their everyday transactions. Incidents like these can prod the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies as the base currency. Cryptocurrencies eliminate the expenditure of printing out cash and also the system is decentralized, providing an escape route from monopoly.
