Smurfit Kappa, a leader in the paper and corrugated cardboard packaging sector, has integrated six of the fifteen women who have followed the factory operator course launched in July and August by Eulen Flexiplón and in collaboration with the Cross -Red. Training aimed at promoting the employment of women of different ages and social realities in a traditionally male sector such as corrugated cardboard packaging, thus breaking the existing gender gap in this industry.

“Participation in this training allowed 15 women to show that they are capable of exercising a profession hitherto occupied mainly by men. The Red Cross and Smurfit Kappa allowed us to fulfill this role and work in the factory. To get into this profession, we had to learn everything paper and cardboard involve so that we could then put into practice everything we had learned. Thank you for this opportunity, ”says Luca Esquinas Martnez, one of the participants in the plant operator course.

In addition to these six women, who already work in the company as forklifts, machine assistants or strapping machines, Smurfit Kappa plans to continue integrating other women who have completed the course into its staff in Cordoba, depending on their human resource needs. demonstrating that in this type of more masculinized sector, it is possible to break the gap between the sexes that currently exists. Likewise, continue to work with Eulen Flexipln and the Red Cross to continue to train people with integration problems and promote their employability in their different factories in Spain and Portugal.

Carlos Lij, director of Smurfit Kappa Crdoba, assures us in this regard that “this initiative is part of the Smurfit Kappa equality plan, where it is also necessary to highlight the” EveryOne, Inclusion and Diversity “plan, which aims to create an even more inclusive work environment and that each part of the company feels supported, accepted and respected in their daily work, since we all have something unique to offer. That is why we will continue to work to offer new employment opportunities to people with different social problems who, as we have seen, have a lot to contribute to the company ”.

“We are very happy to see that this collaboration is bearing fruit, because of the opportunity it offers all these women to join the labor market and the added value of its achievement in a traditionally masculine sector”, underlines Nicoletta Comito, Provincial Employment Officer of the Spanish Red Cross in Cordoba.

“Aligning efforts in favor of real and effective equality, and seeing how the motivation and attitude of the participants grow throughout the project with the results obtained, reinforces the conviction that we are on the right track”, emphasizes Mariola Hernangomez, national leader of EULEN Formacin.

The 15 women who participate in this factory operator course have different profiles associated with projects promoted by the Red Cross Employment Plan, such as Bridges to employment, Itineraries that add up, Employment Challenge + 45 or Acrcate.
