Spain surpasses four million infections with skyrocketing incidence and 43,960 new cases in one day

More than four million Spaniards have been infected with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. On Tuesday, confirmed cases in Spain surpassed the four million mark, reaching 4,015,084 since March of last year, after adding 43,960 new infections in a single day.

This is what emerges from the latest report from the Ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation, which accounts for a cumulative incidence which continues to skyrocket: this Tuesday amounted to 436.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the last two weeks, an increase of more than 68 points. compared to the day before.

An indicator that weighs particularly heavily on the clouds among the youngest: in the 20-29 age group, it already stands at 1,421.40; while between 12 and 19, it is 1,183.56. Figures which also saw a sharp increase on the last day, when the incidence in these groups was respectively 1,203.14 and 1,011.45.

This, at a time when more than half of the population to be vaccinated – 52.6%, according to the vaccination report of this Tuesday – already has the complete schedule, even if the coverage falls to 11.7% in the bracket age between 20 and 29 years and 1% among the youngest.

Faced with this situation, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, affirmed this Tuesday during her appearance in Congress that “it is urgent to ensure to finish monopolizing the virus” and to “slow” the growth of these sections and “to return to an incidence which takes us towards normality”. “We will still have days of growth, as the cumulative incidence at seven days indicates,” he nevertheless predicted.

In addition, he called for caution and responsibility towards young people. “No one is exempt from going to hospital and going to intensive care, moreover we are starting to see it in very young people,” he warned.

In this sense, health pressure is mounting on Tuesday, according to the Health Check: the occupancy rate of hospitals is 3.49% (yesterday it was 3.24%) and the proportion of intensive care beds occupied. by COVID patients exceeds 8%: it is at 8.21%, against 7.87% on Monday.

In addition, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin, COVID-19 has already killed 81,033 people in our country since the start of the health crisis, which represents 13 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
