The Excellence in Management Club, a multisectoral non-profit association that generates and shares knowledge on the management and transformation of organizations, through the Forum for Excellence in Education, among others, organized the conference ‘The’ school of the future, today ”. An online meeting organized in collaboration with the British School of Aragn (Zaragoza) and the Ramn y Cajal schools (Madrid) whose objective was to grasp the keys to the school of the future, taking into account the experience of students and educators.
Among the conclusions drawn, he underlined the challenge of not turning the transformation of the pre-university educational environment around technology and digital. Investing in these types of resources is and will be necessary in the sector, but only as one more tool to improve student learning. From the reflections extracted from this virtual meeting, the Club Excellence in Management drew up the following list of conclusions and recommendations:
The five keys to designing the school of the future
Digital transformation goes beyond videoconferencing education. The pandemic has shown us how much technology and digitization are useful tools for carrying out educational work. But the whole transformation of a school should not revolve around this variable, they are simply tools that must be learned to use effectively and efficiently, and always being attentive to the needs of the student. Less regulatory rigidity: Many schools complain that excessive regulations fall like a slab on their innovative intentions. The rigidity of compulsory curricula does not help to create an education system more open to transformation in which, in addition to basic knowledge, one learns to think, create, debate and solve everyday problems. Use business models that drive transformation. That they make the processes more flexible, which involve all interest groups in the educational center: parents, teachers, students, workers, suppliers, etc. And that they define sustainable strategic plans in the short, medium and long term so that the path to the changes of the future is not complicated. Address all diversity in a homogeneous manner. Another challenge in the school environment today and in the future is to improve the number of school failures. And for this, it is important to personalize the teaching it provides in one way or another, listening carefully to the needs of each student and solving their learning problems, so that no one is left behind. account. On the one hand, to implement different teaching methodologies and thus be able to adapt to these different simultaneous needs. On the other hand, the search for formulas to reduce the social and economic gaps which hinder the process of acquiring knowledge. Investing in people, in teachers and in students and their families, and not just by providing them with the most innovative technological resources. It is much more important that they know how to use them effectively and efficiently, and for this they need training. From the school administration, it is important to proceed to an active listening to understand what are the real needs of these interest groups in this sense and that the emotional prevails over the technological, even if they go together.
The EFQM model, promoted in Spain by the Excellence in Management Club, allows this culture of change in schools to be described correctly and in a transversal manner.
