Temporary messages already available in WhatsApp for Windows 10

WhatsApp Desktop for Windows 10 has received an update. By bringing the application to version 2.2045.19.0, the update brings self-destruct messages, bug fixes and performance improvements.

For those unfamiliar with the subject, the post in question is based on a Snapchat feature. This allows us to choose how long you want the WhatsApp messages to last before they are deleted. When you activate the function of temporary or ephemeral messages, new messages sent to a chat disappear after 7 days. You can read the changelog to learn more about the feature.

What’s new in WhatsApp for Windows 10

Ephemeral Messages – You can now send ephemeral or temporary messages that last seven days on WhatsApp. In an individual chat, each of the two contacts can activate temporary messages, while in a group chat, only administrators can activate or deactivate this function.

If a contact doesn’t open WhatsApp for seven days, the message will disappear. However, the message preview may remain visible in notifications until WhatsApp is opened.

When you reply to a message, the original message is quoted. If you reply to a temporary message, the quoted text may remain visible in the chat even after seven days. If an ephemeral message is forwarded to a chat room where temporary messages are disabled, it will remain visible in the forwarded chat.

If a user performs a backup while the message is still visible, it will be backed up. Messages will be deleted when a user restores from a backup.

By default, media files you receive on WhatsApp are automatically downloaded to your photos. If temporary messages are enabled, media files sent in the chat will only be visible temporarily, but will be saved on the phone if the automatic download setting is enabled.

Additionally, the usual bug fixes and various improvements have been made. WhatsApp recently added the temporary message feature to their mobile apps, and now those who use WhatsApp Desktop on their Windows 10 PC can use it as well.
