What happened to the Ayuso apartment hotel? The controversy with the Kike Sarasola channel

Publication: Sunday May 9, 2021 20:51

A year has passed since Isabel Díaz Ayuso faced one of her most controversial controversies until her crushing success in the Madrid election. These are the suspicions of paying with public money for the luxury hotel residence in which he stayed during the detention.

The president of the Community of Madrid has chosen the Room Mate hotel chain, owned by businessman Kike Sarasola, to contain herself and manage the pandemic. Nothing more and nothing less than the “Royal Suite Skyline”, which usually costs around 200 euros per night.

Despite the fact that the regional government and the company itself assured that Ayuso would foot the bill out of pocket – 80 euros a night due to the long stay – doubts about paying with public money have been raised. triggered by a suspicious contract.

Suspicious contract dance

On May 6, 2020, the Community of Madrid approved an expenditure of 806,193.19 euros for procurement, for three months, for the start-up of hotels in anti-COVID-19 residences.

On Tuesday, May 13, the regional administration published on its transparency portal a contract awarding this service to the Room Mate hotel chain – the chain where Ayuso was staying – for a value of 565,749.62 euros.

However, that same afternoon, after the first publications on the luxury apartment of this chain in which Díaz Ayuso spent his quarantine, this version disappeared from the web. In its place appeared another contract of 240,443.57 euros awarded to the Coordinadora del Tercer sector, an entity that manages small and medium-sized NGOs in the third sector of the Community of Madrid.

Ayuso’s explanations

The regional government blamed it all on human error and ensured that Room Mate had not charged a single euro. This was also stated by the owner of the company, Kike Sarasola, who stressed that they had run “at all costs” to adapt hotels for sanitary purposes.

On the other hand, the explanations that the Community of Madrid gave to eldiario.es indicated that the change was due to the fact that the allocation of more than half a million was going to be allocated to a hotel that was eventually going to be used. and that of 240,000 euros corresponds to the second hotel that was launched.

In the Coordinadora del Tercer sector, they were outraged, assuring that they had learned from the press and that the only thing they had was an administrative contract for a much lower amount. “We have never collected nor will we collect these 240,000 euros on the contract that the Community says is for us”, explained Rafael Escudero, representative of the coordinator of the third sector.

The prosecution filed the file

Anti-corruption has opened an investigation into the possible payment with public funds for the aparthotel in which Ayuso stayed from March 16 to the end of May, at the request of the PSOE.

The Socialists demanded that an investigation should be made whether the stay was “a gift” in exchange for a public contract with the hotel chain, but eventually the prosecution closed the investigation when they found no evidence.

Ayuso shows Gonzo the bill

Isabel Díaz Ayuso showed Gonzo in Salvados the invoice for the stay at the aparthotel as well as the transfer she made from her personal account to make the payment.

“A transfer of 5,580 euros. The payer is Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the beneficiary Room Mate,” said Gonzo, who realized that the president had paid 160 euros more. “I overpaid it, I’m a sucker,” Ayuso said.
